Reading - Language Arts

Outcome:

At least 70% of all students in grades 1-3 will demonstrate on grade-level ability on the spring 2024 reading iReady.

Strategies:

  • Increase the use of data to plan instruction and monitor progress for students demonstrating risk.
  • Expand the use of skills-based grouping to ensure students demonstrate mastery of foundational skills.
  • Expand the use of independent practice with a variety of texts and meaningful tasks. 

Mathematics

Outcome:

At least 50% of all students in grades 3-6 will have an SOL reporting category strength in Probability, Statistics, Patterns, Functions, and Algebra.

Strategies: 

  • Use conversation structures to increase academic talk between students.
  • Increase teacher implementation of explicit instruction and other components of effective mathematics intervention.
  • Improve teachers’ implementation of Framework for Engaging and Student-Centered Mathematics Instruction.

FCPS Strategic Goal: 

Outcome: 

On Spring, SEL screener, we will go from 58% to 70% for belonging and from 42% to 55% for cultural awareness and action.

Strategies:

  • Use a Responsive Classroom approach to create positive and accepting communities.
  • Increase safety and belonging on the playground during recess.
  • Apply the culturally responsive principle of creating a supportive learning environment reflecting the cultures of all children.
