Outcome goals for this academic school year and beyond

Year 1 Targets 2017-2018

Reading: Raise the Bar

CAG driver:  Academic Support

POG: Creative and Critical Thinker, Communicator

Goal:  Increase the number of students reading above grade level.

Strategy: Instruction will focus on the ongoing student use of critical and creative thinking skills to comprehend text.  

Action(s):

  1. Teachers will embed the 9 critical and creative thinking strategies in explicit instruction to all students to support higher order thinking skills using both fiction and nonfiction text.

  2. Teachers will learn and begin to implement the Read Above Phase I and Phase II structures and bookmarks  during reading instruction.

  3. Teachers will provide time for independent reading and reflection daily.

  4. Teachers not currently endorsed will continue to work towards their AA endorsement.

 

Reading: Close the Gap

POG: Communicator

Goal:  Increase the number of students reading on grade level.

Strategy: Students who are reading below grade level will participate in specific interventions to improve decoding, fluency, and/or comprehension skills.  

Action(s):

  1. All teachers will collaborate to create pre/post-assessments to gather information about students’ knowledge prior to and after a unit of instruction.

  2. Specialists will carefully match research based reading programs through consultation with instructional service reading specialists to meet students’ needs. Specialists will monitor student progress every 4 to 6 weeks in collaboration with the classroom teacher.            

  3. The RI Team will define and share the RI Process.

  4. Teachers  will have a basic understanding of the RI Process and the EDSL RI Application to monitor students progress.

Goal:  Increase the number of students performing at an advanced math level.

Strategy: Collaborative teams will analyze the results of pre/post assessments and differentiate instruction based on each student’s level of skill mastery.

Action(s):

  1. All teachers will collaborate to create pre/post-assessments to gather information about students’ knowledge prior to and after a unit of instruction.

  2. Teachers will learn about the different advanced academic resources to plan differentiated instruction based on each student’s level of skill mastery.

 

Math: Close the Gap

POG: Creative and Critical Thinker, Communicator, Collaborator

Goal:  Increase the number of students performing on grade level.

Strategy: Teachers will model and give opportunities for students to show multiple representations to explain their thinking.  

Action(s):

  1. Students will use interactive notebooks in all grade levels to process information and show their thinking

  2. Performance tasks with rubrics and number talks/academic conversations will be used to show thinking and multiple representations.

  3. Teachers will pre-plan and post higher level thinking questions to promote critical thinking.

  4. Teachers will learn about and start one-on-one collaborative learning visits to gain/share ideas on student engagement and differentiation.

 

PBL

POG: Communicator, Collaborator, Critical and Creative Thinker

Strategy: Students will participate in two Project Based Learning activities, one each semester.  

Action(s): CTs will collaborate and plan to implement at least two PBL projects this year with a corresponding rubric to measure skill mastery.

  2. Teachers will learn and  begin to implement Phase III of the Read Above structure.

  3. Students will apply the 9 critical  and creative thinking strategies during independent reading and daily reflection.

  4. Teachers not currently endorsed will continue to work towards their AA endorsement.
