Calendar Reminders Early Release on Monday, November 18

Monday, November 18 is the next 3-hour early release of the school year. Clermont students will be dismissed at 12:50 pm. Those students who were previously opted-in to the extended childcare option will be dismissed at 3:50 pm. Each family was sent an email confirming the dismissal time you selected for the previous early release days. If you have a change to your dismissal plan for this early release, please contact the Clermont Office at 703-921-2400 or email Mrs. Gibson at [email protected].   

Thanksgiving

Schools and offices will be closed November 27-29 for Thanksgiving. Classes will resume on Monday, December 2. 

AAP News

Full-Time referrals for the spring screening cycle are due no later than Sunday, December 15, 2024. A referral form is required for any student (grades 2-7) whose parent would like them screened for Full-Time services. Parents may also choose to submit:

• the parent/guardian questionnaire
• up to two pages of student work samples
• Achievement test results (SOL scores already included)
• Private ability test results (from a private, clinically licensed psychologist, or George Mason Cognitive Assessment Program)

These optional materials should be submitted to the Advanced Academic Resource Teacher, Raechel Acosta, at [email protected] when submitting the referral form. Please contact Raechel Acosta with any questions you may have.

Food Drive

Please bring non-perishable food items to school to donate to families in need in our community from November 6th - 25th. All donations will help support the Koinonia Foundation in Alexandria, Virginia. Please drop off items in the box in the front lobby.

Assistance Needs & Opportunities

During the year, some of our families find they need assistance with food, clothing, or other items. There are several community services available to provide help. If your family needs support please return this form. Our school counselor, Mrs. Green, will contact you with information about getting assistance. Additionally, many families have already reached out to express an interest in supporting families in our Clermont community. If you are looking for ways to help please read and submit this form to see how you can show you CARE by supporting families in our community.

Return Your Federal Impact Aid Survey

FCPS is asking all families to fill out a Federal Impact Aid Survey. The form is available in SIS ParentVUE under Online Packets (in the upper right corner after logging in). Please complete it as soon as possible.

For any families who have not completed the survey in ParentVUE, we will have sent paper forms home. Paper forms should be returned by Wednesday, December 4.

Completing this form for each school-aged child in every household is important. Information from this survey resulted in more than $4 million in funding last year from the U.S. Department of Education. These funds are used to support all Fairfax County public schools and centers.

Calendar Reminders Veterans Day

Monday, November 11, is a holiday and schools will be closed for students.

Early Release on Monday, November 18

Calendar Reminders

Reminder: Today, Thursday, October 31, is the last day of the first quarter, and a two-hour early release for students.

There will be no school tomorrow, Friday, November 1, which is a holiday this year for Diwali, Dia de los Muertos and All Saints Day.

Next week, schools are closed on Monday, and Tuesday, November 4-5, for voting, school planning, and teacher workdays. The Clermont office will be closed on Tuesday, November 5. 

School will resume on Wednesday, November 6th. 

Daylight Saving Time Ends (Fall Back)

This Sunday, November 3, at 2 a.m., daylight saving time ends. Don’t forget to move your clocks back one hour!

Neighborly Reminder

As a gentle reminder, when visiting the school for events and during arrival/ dismissal, please do not park in front of our neighbor's driveways. Blocking driveways is not only unneighborly, it is also a safety hazard. Please be kind to our Clermont neighbors!

All Active Duty, Reserve, Guard, Veterans, and Retired Service members, please join us for breakfast to honor you!

Note: Your Clermont student is invited to come from their classroom to join you for this special event!

Afterwards (around 10 am), we’re hoping you will join classrooms to share a little bit about military life. One of our goals is to provide an opportunity for students to thank Veterans and understand why we celebrate Veterans’ Day while creating meaningful interactions for students and veterans. Another goal is to expose our students to what life as an active service member might look like.

It’s that exciting time of year when FCPS asks us to recognize our outstanding staff at Clermont Elementary School for going above and beyond! If you would like to nominate a staff member for Outstanding Employee in one of the categories below, please complete this Google link: Outstanding Employee Nominations. You may nominate an employee in one or more categories. All that is required for a preliminary nomination is a paragraph or two about how this employee demonstrates exceptional work in the criteria for that category. Edison Theatre Company Presents Peter Pan and Wendy

Come see Edison High School’s Edison Theatre Company’s fall play, Peter Pan and Wendy. This show is newly adapted by Edison’s own director, Jeffrey Walker. Performances are on November 13th, 14th, and 15th at 7pm and November 16th at 2pm in the auditorium of Edison High School. Tickets are $8 for students and $10 for adults when ordered in advance.

Dear Clermont Community,

Clermont will be hosting our annual Veterans Day Celebration on Friday, November 8, from 9:15 am – 10:45 am.

For Veterans Day, Clermont takes the opportunity to expose our students to what it is like to be a part of the United States Military. Currently, we do not have enough speakers for all of our classes, and we would appreciate your help getting the word out! If you have any active duty or retired service members in your life who would like to speak to Clermont students, please RSVP HERE, or by emailing Emily Hobson at [email protected] & Heather Raph at [email protected]. 

One of our goals is to provide an opportunity for students to thank Veterans and understand why we celebrate Veterans’ Day while creating meaningful interactions for students and veterans. Another goal is to expose our students to what life as an active service member might look like. 

Some ideas to talk about with students:

• Share why you joined the service
• Bring in an artifact to share (students LOVE the artifacts!)
• Share a short story of your time in service
• Share a favorite memory or experience
• Share what you like best or your biggest challenge
• Share what you’re most proud of etc.
• We can also recommend and provide a story for you to read aloud connected to military life 

Prior to presentations, all presenters and Active Duty, Reserve, Guard, and Retired Service members, are invited to join us for light breakfast in your honor!

Nominations Open for Clermont's Outstanding Employee Awards Nomination Deadline: November 8, 2024

Outstanding School-Based Leader - an employee who has at least one year of experience in current position - this position could include Assistant Principal, DSA, DSS

Outstanding Professional Employee – an employee with at least one year of experience in the position – these positions could include Counselor, School-Based Technology Specialists (SBTS), Technology Support Specialist (TSSpec), Psychologist, Social Worker

Outstanding Operational Employee – an Operational employee with at least one year of experience in the position – these positions could include administrative and office assistants, student information assistants, custodial staff, food service staff, Instructional Assistants, Public Health Assistants, Public Health Training Assistants, family liaisons, student monitors

Clermont is a Third Time Purple Star School

We are proud to announce that the Virginia Council on the Educational Opportunity for Military Children has approved Clermont Elementary School as a recipient of the SY 2024-2025 “Purple Star Award”, which is our 3rd time receiving this honorable designation! The Virginia Purple Star Designation is awarded to military-friendly schools that have demonstrated a major commitment to students and families connected to our nation’s military.

Book Character Day

Book Character Dress-up Day is Thursday, October 31st. On this day, students can wear a costume that represents a book character. If the student has access to the book the character is from, we ask that they bring the book with them to school. Please no fake weapons or masks.

It's that time of year again—time for our annual Trunk or Treat event! Grab your costumes and your sweetest smiles, because tonight, Friday, Oct. 25, our school parking lot will transform into a Halloween wonderland of treats, tricks, and fantastic fun!

Return Your Federal Impact Aid Survey

FCPS is asking all families to fill out a Federal Impact Aid Survey. The form is available in SIS ParentVUE under Online Packets (in the upper right corner after logging in). Please complete it as soon as possible.

For any families who have not completed the survey in ParentVUE, we will provide paper forms starting Wednesday, November 13. Paper forms should be returned by Wednesday, December 4.

Completing this form for each school-aged child in every household is important. Information from this survey resulted in more than $4 million in funding last year from the U.S. Department of Education. These funds are used to support all Fairfax County public schools and centers.

The 4th grade class is conducting an Otis Spunkmeyer cookie dough fundraiser to help offset the cost of their spring field trip to Jamestown. The fundraiser ends on October 31, 2024. Calendar Reminders Early Release on Monday, October 21

Monday, October 21 is the second 3-hour early release of the school year. Clermont students will be dismissed at 12:50 pm. Those students who were opted-in to the extended childcare option will be dismissed at 3:50 pm. Each family was sent an email confirming the dismissal time you selected.  

Quarter End, Early Release, Diwali/Dia de los Muertos and All Saints Day, Student Holidays

Thursday, October 31, is the last day of the first quarter, and a two-hour early release for students. Clermont will dismiss at 1:50 pm. Friday, November 1, is a holiday this year for Diwali, Dia de los Muertos and All Saints Day. All schools and offices will be closed. Schools are closed for students on Monday, November 4, for a school planning day, and Tuesday, November 5, for a teacher workday. 

Book Character Day

Book Character Dress-up Day is Thursday, October 31st. On this day, students can wear a costume that represents a book character. If the student has access to the book the character is from, we ask that they bring the book with them to school. Please no fake weapons or masks.

Assistance Needs & Opportunities

During the year, some of our families find they need assistance with food, clothing, or other items. There are several community services available to provide help. If your family needs support please return this form. Our school counselor, Mrs. Green, will contact you with information about getting assistance. Additionally, many families have already reached out to express an interest in supporting families in our Clermont community. If you are looking for ways to help please read and submit this form to see how you can show you CARE by supporting families in our community.

Mark Your Calendars for Our Annual Bookfair!

The Bookworm Central book fair is coming next week for students during school hours. Students will have the opportunity to visit the fair to make a wish list from Monday Oct. 21 – Wednesday Oct. 23 with their class. We will also be open for one late night on Wednesday,  October 23 from 4 – 7:30 pm. If you are unable to make it to the family night, your child can purchase during their class’s assigned time. Your support of the school library program is greatly appreciated! Books can be purchased using cash, check (made out to Clermont Elementary PTA) or through an eWallet (this is DIFFERENT than Scholastic). For more information on the cashless option, eWallet, please visit the Bookworm website at www.bookwormcentral.com. Proceeds from the book fair support the improvement of the library collection and program. 

Book Fair Volunteers Needed

Help is needed in preparing for the fair and throughout the week it is open. Please consider volunteering your time by helping to advertise, decorate, set up, work at the fair during school hours, work after school during our late night, and help to pack up. 

Please feel free to sign up to volunteer for an hour, a couple of hours, or for the entire week. Whatever works for you! The book fair is a lot of fun and is one of our most popular volunteer opportunities. We appreciate your time and efforts!

One of our goals is to provide an opportunity for students to thank Veterans and understand why we celebrate Veterans’ Day while creating meaningful interactions for students and veterans. So, mark your calendars and join us for a night of frightful fun and community spirit. 

We are looking for three trunks from each grade level. The PTA does purchase candy for this event but we are also kindly asking for candy donations, or other trinkets such as slap bracelets, squishies, spider rings, etc.

Full-Time referrals for the fall screening cycle are due Tuesday, October 15, 2024. Full-Time referrals for all other students are due no later than Sunday, December 15, 2024. Dear Clermont Community,

Clermont is a Purple Star school, and we embrace opportunities to celebrate our military connected families! As the school year takes off, we look forward to our first Military Kids Club meeting on October 17, at 3 pm. We invite all military connected families to RSVP if they would like their child to participate using the form below!

Additionally, we will be hosting our annual Veterans Day Celebration on Friday, November 8, from 9:30 am – 10:45 am (arrival at 9:15 am). This year, Clermont will be honoring our Veterans, as well as our current active military families, on Friday, November 8.

As part of the celebration, we would like to have any available Veterans or active military parents, grandparents, and guardians join us for a light breakfast gathering followed by classroom presentations. Clermont takes the opportunity to expose our students to what it is like to be a part of the United States Military on Veterans Day, which is why we welcome our active duty as well as our Veterans. Our event will begin in our cafeteria, and parents/guardians who stay to share about their time in the service will visit various classrooms. More information will be sent to those who volunteer at a later date.

Rosh Hashanah begins at sundown today, Wednesday, October 2. This is an evening-only O day, and important events will not be held after school. 

Thursday, October 3, is a holiday for all FCPS staff. Schools and offices will be closed. 

Friday, October 4, is a teacher workday and there will be no school for students. 

Edison HS Football Feeder Night

Edison High School invites all families from our pyramid to their football game on October 4th. Before the game, future Edison Eagles will have the opportunity to participate in a fun run across the field. The evening will also include the annual Deck Bowl competition against Lewis High School, to honor Edison's late Coach Deck —a meaningful tradition for the Edison community.

Rosh Hashanah begins at sundown on Wednesday, October 2. That day is an evening-only O day, and important events will not be held after school. 

Thursday, October 3, is a holiday for all FCPS staff. Schools and offices will be closed. 

Friday, October 4, is a teacher workday and there will be no school for students. 

Edison HS Football Feeder Night

Edison High School invites all families from our pyramid to their football game on October 4th. Before the game, future Edison Eagles will have the opportunity to participate in a fun run across the field. The evening will also include the annual Deck Bowl competition against Lewis High School, to honor Edison's late Coach Deck —a meaningful tradition for the Edison community.

New to County Full-Time Referrals

Are you new to FCPS? Are you interested in referring your child in grades 3-8 for Full-Time Advanced Academics services? Full-Time referrals for the fall screening cycle are due Tuesday, October 15, 2024. Full-Time referrals for all other students are due no later than Sunday, December 15, 2024. Please visit the FCPS AAP site for helpful information regarding the continuum of services and the referral process. Hey there, ghoulishly great families of Clermont Elementary!

It's that time of year again—time for our annual Trunk or Treat event! Grab your costumes and your sweetest smiles, because on Friday, Oct. 25, our school parking lot will transform into a Halloween wonderland of treats, tricks, and fantastic fun!

👻 When: Friday, Oct. 25 from 6:30-7:30 p.m.

👻 Costumes: Optional but encouraged! 

So, mark your calendars and join us for a night of frightful fun and community spirit. 

We are looking for three trunks from each grade level. The PTA does purchase candy for this event but we are also kindly asking for candy donations, or other trinkets such as slap bracelets, squishies, spider rings, etc.

🗓️ Attendance Tip: Scheduling Family Trips or Events

Good attendance is an important life skill that will help students succeed in school and beyond.

When planning trips or family events, refer to the FCPS calendar and try to use weekends and school holidays. Every day of learning is a day toward success. Keep in mind that absences add up quickly. Students absent 10% of the school year (or just two days per month) are considered chronically absent.

When possible, schedule appointments for your child outside of school hours. If your child needs to miss school because of an illness or another reason, you must report the absence.

Blue Star Welcome Week

Military Families at Clermont ES were invited to a Meet and Greet (plus ice cream treat!) last night to have an opportunity to find out about the school, and to meet others with shared experiences that are unique to being a military family!

Every year, approximately 600,000 military-connected families relocate. Most of these families move to new duty stations, while some transition out of the military and others transition in. Most of these moves take place over the summer, and Fairfax County Public Schools is committed to ensuring our military families feel welcomed and a sense of belonging to their local community. 

Blue Star Welcome Week is an opportunity for our community to welcome our military-connected families and show them our appreciation for their service and sacrifices. Throughout the week, FCPS will help ease their transition through events, messages, actions of welcome, and opportunities to make meaningful connections. Counselor’s Corner

Thank you all for welcoming me so openly to Clermont ES as the new counselor. I am so excited to be working with your children, the teachers, and all of the Clermont families. If you or your child need support or if you have any questions, you can reach me on Talking Points, by email at [email protected], or by phone at 703-921-2400. 

Counseling Lessons

Each month, I will be teaching lessons to each classroom on a variety of topics. During the month of September, we will be learning all about School Counseling and how a School Counselor can help. We will also be doing an introduction to Problem-Solving Skills. Please ask your child about when Mrs. Green comes to their classroom and about what they are learning. I will send out updates about what we are learning each month, with some information on what you can do at home to help support that learning. 

Are you new to Clermont ES?

The school counselor will be offering short-term new student orientation groups which are open to 1st through 6th grade students. Meetings last for approximately 20-30 minutes and are held once per week.

If you would like for your child to participate, please fill out and submit this form by Monday, September 23, 2024. Please contact the counselor if you have any questions about the group or about the counseling program in general.

Edison HS Football Feeder Night

The Boosterthon Fun Run was today! The students did an amazing job, and we have surpassed our $30,000 goal! Thank you so much to everyone who donated! Ms. Salata and Mrs. Younger participated in a unicorn race today, and will be treating the students to karaoke soon! 

Regarding prizes: We did such an amazing job fundraising that the Booster team had to restock. Restocked prizes should arrive next week to be delivered by next Friday, September 27th.

Boosterthon Fun Run

The Boosterthon Fun Run is TOMORROW! We’ve done an amazing job this week working towards reaching our $30,000! The students have spent the week completing their Castle Quest and learning about character traits such as trustworthiness, creativity, focus, respect, self-awareness and life long learning with the high energy booster team! Don’t forget, tonight is the last night for donations! Help us finish strong this week! Just a few reminders for tomorrow:

Students will be outside running up to 35 laps! Please make sure your child brings a water bottle and wears good shoes for running. The schedule for the run is 3rd-6th grade (9:45-10:45) and K-2nd (11-12). If you need to check your volunteer sign up, you can do so HERE. 

If you are volunteering, remember you will be on your feet outside, so wear good shoes and bring water for yourself! Please make sure when you arrive you go straight to the upper field and there will be a sign in sheet for you there. Remember if you take any photos during the event please DO NOT post them on social media unless it is just your child. We can’t wait to feel the energy and excitement this Friday during the Fun Run. Thank you Clermont Community for all your support with this Fundraiser!

Reminder: First Early Release on Monday

As a reminder, this Monday, September 16 is the first 3-hour early release of the school year. Clermont students will be dismissed at 12:50 pm. Those students who were opted-in to the extended childcare option will be dismissed at 3:50 pm. Each family was sent an email confirming the dismissal time you selected.  

Please make sure your child knows how they are going home on Monday. If you have a change to their usual mode of transport, please notify the front office at (703) 921-2400.

The following dates are planned for Clermont’s Early Release Mondays throughout the school year: September 16, October 21, November 18, February 10, March 10, April 21, and May 12

The Boosterthon team arrived on campus this week! The students can already feel the energy and excitement that they bring to campus! If you haven't signed up yet, sign up today at MyBooster.com! 

Help us reach our goal of $30,000. If you sign up over the weekend you get a bonus keychain!

We also have the following incentives along the way:

• We’ve already reached our first incentive of 50% registration which means Ms. Salata and Ms. Younger will sing Karaoke for the students! 
• We’ve already raised over $8,000! If we reach $30,000 by the morning of the fun run Ms. Salata and Mrs. Younger will participate in a unicorn race!  

We need your help to make this run a success! Do you want to come watch your student run? While you're there, help mark laps, give out water and check in volunteers. Sign up HERE to volunteer.

Join Girls on the Run! (Grades 3-6)

What is Girls on the Run (GOTR)?
GOTR is a positive youth development program for elementary school
students starting in grade 3. Participants will have fun, make friends, increase their physical activity, and learn important lessons to last a lifetime! GOTR ends the season with a celebratory 5K event - open to friends and family! The program will run from September 23 - November 24.

Odyssey of the Mind Hey Clermont!

Do you like to write? Do you like to sing? Do you like to create things out of cardboard? Do you play an instrument? Do you like collaborating with friends?

Are you ready for an AMAZING creative adventure?

Odyssey of the Mind is a one-of-a-kind creative problem-solving program for K-12 students sponsored by the Clermont PTA. From October to March, teams work to solve a long-term problem, then present their solutions at a regional competition. Odyssey of the Mind also emphasizes teamwork, budgeting, time management, public speaking, and so much more. Each team develops their own unique solution and do ALL the work themselves, encouraged by parent coaches. There is a weekly commitment on a day and time that the team agrees upon. 🤒 When a Student Should Stay Home From School

Whether students miss school because of illness or any other reason, missing school leads to learning loss.

Help your child succeed by encouraging them to attend as many days as possible, but do make sure your child stays home if they are sick. Visit our website for information on when to keep your child at home.

If your child has a chronic illness, make sure to notify their teacher so that assistance can be provided if needed. Keep an open line of communication with your school's public health staff.

FAQs about Boosterthon: 

What is the Clermont Fun Run? 

The Clermont Fun Run is a 9 day program and is this semester’s biggest fundraiser, taking place on 09/20/2024. Families will be getting donations for the laps their student completes at the Clermont Fun Run. Funds raised from this event go toward creating a new recreation area to benefit all students. Our goal is to raise $30,000.

How can families register their student(s)?

First, families log in or sign up on MYBOOSTER.COM. Then, families can register their student as a participant on MYBOOSTER.COM by searching for the school by name. Students get a FREE prize just for being registered. 

How can students get donations? 

Families can help connect students to sponsors by sharing their fundraising link on Facebook, through email, or even a text. Sponsors can enter and pay for those donations online through students’ fundraising link! 

Will my student really complete 30-35 laps? How big is the track? 

Yes, even kindergarteners! The Outdoor Fun Run track is about 1/16th of a mile, 1/4 the size of a normal high school track. The average student will complete 30-35 laps and will have a goal to complete at least 30 laps to help their school. The most any student will be counted for is 35 laps. 

Can students receive a prize for flat donations? 

Yes! All flat donations count toward donations and are rounded by 30 (the average student will complete over 30 laps. So, a $30 donation is the same as $1 per lap. A $60 donation is the same as $2 per lap, etc. 

What if families don’t have the Internet? 

If a student’s family does not have Internet access, families can use the Fundraising Guide to record all donations and send in the payment with the Fundraising Guide (if applicable). If students turn their donation and payment into their teacher, please make sure the student and teacher name are listed on the Fundraising Guide. 

How do sponsors pay? 

Sponsors will be prompted to pay online for all donations, even per lap donations. Sponsors will receive an email after the Clermont Fun Run with the amount of their payment based on how many laps were completed. 

Can I make a donation if I don’t want to pay online? 

YES! You can either turn in the payment for a donation listed on the Fundraising Guide, or you can request to turn off online payments for your account through our help desk on MYBOOSTER.COM. When is donation money due? Donation money is due within ONE WEEK after the event. Families have one week to collect their donations after the Clermont Fun Run. 

Can I write a check? 

For donations not made on MYBOOSTER.COM, you can still turn in cash or check. Please make checks out to: Clermont PTA

Join Girls on the Run! (Grades 3-6)

What is Girls on the Run (GOTR)?
GOTR is a positive youth development program for elementary school
students starting in grade 3. Participants will have fun, make friends, increase their physical activity, and learn important lessons to last a lifetime! GOTR ends the season with a celebratory 5K event - open to friends and family! The program will run from September 23 - November 24.

Register Online: 
For fees, program information, and to register, visit www.gotrnova.org by September 17th. (Reduced rates are available for students who receive free and reduced lunch. Discounts available for multiple siblings and military families!)

Odyssey of the Mind Hey Clermont!

Do you like to write? Do you like to sing? Do you like to create things out of cardboard? Do you play an instrument? Do you like collaborating with friends?

Are you ready for an AMAZING creative adventure?

Odyssey of the Mind is a one-of-a-kind creative problem-solving program for K-12 students sponsored by the Clermont PTA. From October to March, teams work to solve a long-term problem, then present their solutions at a regional competition. Odyssey of the Mind also emphasizes teamwork, budgeting, time management, public speaking, and so much more. Each team develops their own unique solution and do ALL the work themselves, encouraged by parent coaches. There is a weekly commitment on a day and time that the team agrees upon. 🍎 Make Every Day Count! The Importance of Attendance

As you plan upcoming trips and other family events, please remember the importance of sending your child to school every day. Review the FCPS School Year Calendar and try to plan any time away during breaks from school. 

Children who show up for school regularly develop fundamental reading and math skills while building a habit of good attendance that will carry them into college and careers. Research shows that children who were chronically absent (missing 18 days or more) in kindergarten and first grade were far less likely to read proficiently at the end of third grade.

2024 Student Rights and Responsibilities 

FCPS’ Student Rights and Responsibilities document (SR&R) explains expectations for student behavior and adult responses to enhance school safety and to create a fair, equitable, and supportive school environment. Read Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid’s letter to families regarding the SR&R. 

Parents/caregivers should talk to their child(ren) about expectations for this school year. Also, please log in to SIS ParentVUE and sign to acknowledge your review of the SR&R, or sign and return the signature sheet to your child’s school by Monday, September 30.

Calendar Labor Day

As a reminder, Tomorrow, Friday, August 30, and Monday, September 2, are Labor Day holidays for all FCPS employees and students. Virginia legislation requires that schools opening prior to Labor Day must be closed the Friday immediately preceding Labor Day. We hope everyone takes the long weekend to celebrate a strong start to the school year and enjoy time with family and friends.

Parents/Guardians may report absences via any of the methods below.

  • Beginning in the 24-25 school year, parents/legal guardians can submit full-day absences using ParentVUE. Learn more about attendance reporting through ParentVUE. (This method replaces the previous online attendance form.)

When reporting a student's absence, please be specific about why your student will not attend school today. If reporting an ill student, include symptoms, especially if they have a fever, nausea, vomiting, sore throat, and/or cough. Dear Clermont Families,

What an incredible first week of school! The excitement for the return to school was felt by all, and it was clear that everyone was thrilled to check out their new classrooms and get to know their teachers. It was especially wonderful to meet so many new students from all over the world!

Thank you for entrusting your children to us. We are committed to providing them with a safe, supportive, and enriching environment where they can thrive every day. We look forward to seeing you at Back to School Night next week. If there is anything Mrs. Younger or I can do to support your family, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Early Release Mondays: Please Share Your Plans

FCPS will have seven (7) early release Mondays throughout the year. Clermont will dismiss at 12:50 pm on these days. Although students are encouraged to return home via their normal route, we understand there may be a childcare hardship for some families. To resolve these concerns, student supervision will be available for families who need it. 

To help plan for our school’s childcare needs during the early release Mondays, we would like ALL Clermont families to complete this form for the first two early release Mondays on September 16 and October 21. (If you have multiple children enrolled at Clermont, please submit separate forms for each of them.) Our staff will confirm the after school supervision plan for each student.

Transportation Patience and Safety

Thank you for your patience as we all get used to new routines this school year. We appreciate our families following Kiss and Ride procedures and being patient while waiting for your children’s buses. 

If a student’s bus is delayed, parents may access the Bus Delay Notification System or use the Here Comes the Bus mobile app to receive the delayed bus report. Contact the Transportation Office at (703) 446-2150 with any additional questions. For any concerns after 5:30 p.m., contact Safety and Security at (571) 423-2000. 

To make sure you receive email messages about bus delays, update your contact information in SIS ParentVUE.

🚍 Here Comes the Bus

Want to know if your child's bus is on schedule or where the bus is? Here Comes the Bus® is an easy-to-use website and app that enables parents to see the location of their child’s school bus — almost in real time — on a smartphone, tablet, or personal computer. 

Parents can track multiple buses if their children don’t all ride the same bus; know exactly when children arrive at school or the bus stop; and receive customized text and/or email notifications about bus locations, schedule changes, or delays.

To get started, download the app from the Apple iOS or Android app store. Check out the Here Comes the Bus webpage for more information. (The FCPS school district code is 28982.)

🔍 Lightspeed Parent Report on Child’s Device Activity

FCPS has tools to help parents know more about their child’s activity on any FCPS device. These tools are provided at no cost to families by Lightspeed, the school division’s internet content filtering service.

Parents may sign up for a weekly Parent Report, which will provide a list of the top sites your child visited. The report also offers parents the ability to sign up for free access to the Internet Use Parent Portal. Through the portal, parents may pause their child’s access to the internet on their FCPS device during non-school hours.

Dear Clermont Families,

On behalf of the entire staff at Clermont Elementary School we would like to welcome you to the 2024-2025 school year! We hope you had a safe and relaxing summer vacation filled with enjoyment, and time with family and friends. We are excited to have students back filling our classrooms with their energy and enthusiasm for learning. It was wonderful to see so many smiling students at our Open House yesterday!

Our goal is to support and encourage each child to find, develop, and explore their talents and gifts. If there is something that may impact your child’s success or focus during the school day, please communicate this to your child’s teacher, the school counselor, either one of us, or any other staff member. We are all here to support you and your child in the pursuit of excellence.

The first day of school is Monday, August 19, 2024. Clermont doors will open daily at 8:50 am, and school begins promptly at 9:05 am. Dismissal is at 3:50 pm. On the first day of school, kindergarten families may enter through the exterior gym doors - just follow the directional signs out front. All other students who walk to school will enter through the front entrance. See you soon!

All Families: Please Complete the Afterschool Survey for Early Release Mondays

The Early Release Mondays planned throughout the school year for elementary schools are essential to allow educators time for planning and professional development. Students will be dismissed 3 hours early seven times throughout the school year and are encouraged to return home via their normal route. However, we understand there may be a childcare hardship because of the early release Mondays for many of our families. To resolve these concerns, student supervision will be available for families who need it. 

Clermont's early release Mondays are scheduled for: September 16, October 21, November 18, February 10, March 10, April 21, and May 12. 

To help plan for our school’s childcare needs during the early release Mondays, please complete this form for each of your children who are enrolled at Clermont Elementary by Friday, August 16, 2024. The form covers the first two early release Mondays, scheduled for September 16, 2024 and October 21, 2024. If you have multiple children, you will need to submit multiple forms. Staff will confirm the after school supervision plan for each student.

Update Your Students Emergency Care and Health Information

All first day packets contain an Emergency Care Form and a Health Information Form for each of your enrolled children. Parents may either update and return these forms, or the enrolling parent may complete all updates online utilizing the Online Verification Update (OVU) packet, available in SIS ParentVUE. The Online Verification Update (OVU) packet allows parents to review and update phone numbers, emergency contacts, and health information (such as health conditions and immunizations) for students. (If an error displays, you may not be listed as the enrolling parent in our system. Please see Regulation 2240 for details on determination and responsibilities of the enrolling parent.)

Do not use the OVU packet if your address has changed or if you moved to another FCPS school. If you have moved, please contact our school registrar, Katie Simmons, at (703) 921-2400.

Once you've purchased your items open the app, take a picture of your receipt or upload a digital receipt and click submit. Box Tops does the rest.

📵 Phones Down, Engagement Up: FCPS Cell Phone Policy

Keeping cell phones off during the school day helps students focus and learn. It also boosts positive social behavior. Review FCPS’ cell phone expectations by grade level with your child and help keep our classrooms free of distractions! If you need to reach your child during the school day, please call our [main office].

Prepare for Meals at School 

Parents/caregivers need to either provide their students with money to purchase meals at school, send them with a packed lunch, or apply (and be approved) for free and reduced-price meals. School breakfast for students costs $1.75. Lunch is $3.25 for elementary students. 

The best way to purchase meals and additional food items is to use MySchoolBucks. If you have not already, set up your student’s MySchoolBucks account today. 

MySchoolBucks accounts can be set up to add money to the account automatically as needed, and families with multiple children can use the same MySchoolBucks account. 

Apply for Free and Reduced-Priced Meals

The application for free and reduced-priced meals is now available for the 2024-25 school year. Students who were approved for free and reduced-price lunch last year are eligible for the first 30 days of school this year (or until a new application is processed). Families should re-apply as soon as possible, so eligible students continue to receive meals at no cost.

Annual Notice of Survey, Records, Curriculum, Privacy, and Related Rights

Fairfax County Public Schools wants all parents and caregivers to understand its policies regarding surveys, records, curriculum, privacy, and related rights.

In its Annual Notice of Survey, Records, Curriculum, Privacy, and Related Rights and Opt-Out Forms (Annual Notice), FCPS provides explanations of the rights listed above as well as forms that may be used to exercise opt-out choices. Two versions of the Annual Notice are available: a grades K-8 version and a grades 9-12 version. Parents/caregivers with children at different grade levels should read each applicable version of the Annual Notice, because the notices and opt-out rights vary depending on the student’s grade level.
