Miss Mac Award Nominations Now Open

Though Clermont is filled with exceptional teachers and staff, an award was established in 2008 to recognize an employee who has gone above and beyond for our students. The Miss Mac award is named in memory of Clermont kindergarten aide, Ashley McIntosh. The award recognizes a Clermont staff member who exemplifies the values Miss McIntosh brought to her teaching.

All Clermont teachers and staff who have not won The Miss Mac Award in the last 7 years are eligible for this award. The deadline for nominations is Monday, May 20, 2024.

We will evaluate all the submissions and present the award and a check for $500 to the recipient at the final Clermont Elementary staff meeting of the school year!

For more information about the Miss Mac Award, nominee criteria, and to submit your nominations visit the PTA website:  https://clermontpta.membershiptoolkit.com/miss-mac-award

Month of the Military Child Clermont in the News!

April is the Month of the Military Child! Every year we take the opportunity to recognize military-connected youth for their service and contribution to our community. We appreciate the varied life experiences they bring to our school community, and recognize their strength and resilience.

This Wednesday was Purple Up! Day in support of military children. At Clermont, we ended the day with a “clap off” parade honoring military connected students. Reporters from WTOP and WJLA news joined us for the occasion and interviewed members of our Military Kids Club. Check out the article from WTOP News linked below to read more!

Spring Break

🌷March 25-29 is spring break. April 1-2 are student holidays/professional workdays. The Clermont Main Office will be closed until April 2. Students will return to school on Wednesday, April 3. We wish our students and teachers a happy and restful Spring Break! See the complete school year calendar

Advanced Academics News

Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) is committed to challenging all students through talent development efforts and differentiated instruction to meet the needs of advanced learners.

FCPS offers a continuum of advanced academic services for all students in Grades K-12. The continuum of services approach recognizes unique student needs and focuses on matching services, not labeling students. Through the continuum, students have:

  • Multiple entry points for deeper learning opportunities in specific areas of need as they develop.
  • A cluster group of students with similar academic needs to continue growing in their learning.

At Clermont, we conduct school-based screening for advanced academic services (Levels II-III and Young Scholars) in May. Parents do not need to submit a Level II-III referral form in order to initiate screening because we screen all students. Please find additional information regarding the levels of AAP services offered in FCPS and the screening and identification timeline by clicking on the links below. Please email our Advanced Academics Resource Teacher, Raechel Acosta, at [email protected] with any questions.

Based on parent feedback, the Clermont PTA Silent Auction opened online before the Saturday evening event. This gives parents an opportunity to bid/purchase items before the event and allow for parents to participate in the Silent Auction if they are unable to attend the evening event. The online auction will close Saturday, March 9th at 9pm.

REGISTRATION: Silent Auction Bidding

Available in our Silent Auction
  1. Teacher Experiences: We have more Teacher Experiences available than ever before! There are 88 possible winners of our Teacher Experiences this year and many let students bring a guest. This gives more students the opportunity for a special experience with a teacher and we greatly appreciate it!
  2. Classes & Camps: There are many Classes & Camps available to take during the day and some for overnight stay! Classes include art activities, and fitness & dance sessions.
  3. Event Tickets: Sports, Theatre, Music and interactive Event Tickets are available including 2 tickets to the Signature Theatre, 10 seats to a show at Bobby McKeys, and Four PNC Diamond Club tickets (all inclusive food, house wine and draft beer) to a 2024 Washington Nationals home game!
  4. Excursions & Travel: Local and short distance Exclusions & Travel are available and a great deal! Included are 2 admission passes to Luray Caverns, Overnight stay at the Alexandrian, and pair of Jet Blue roundtrip tickets to anywhere!
  5. Food & Dining: We have dine in and dine out food items in the auction!
  6. Parent Social: Parent Socials are very popular and usually sell out. This year, they are so good, we are sure they will! Grab these fast!
  7. Services: The auction is a great place to obtain some services to use for yourself or others including multiple lawn services, a portrait session, car washes, and a Delorean rental to display at a party or arrive at a special event in style!
  8. Sports & Fitness: There are many Sports & Fitness packages available in the auction including for baseball training, Pure Barre & Yoga sessions, and cycling & swimming classes!
  9. Treat Yo Self: This category is all about making yourself feel good and includes books, décor, and many self-care items & sessions!
  10. Win a Party: Win a Party to share with your friends! We have many great parties including DJ services, the Magic Art Bus, gaming parties and more!
2 Ways to Register to Bid on Auction Items
  •  Purchase Your Tickets for the Silent Auction Gala on Saturday, March 9th and register as a bidder at the same time.
  • Can’t attend the event? Register as a Bidder and still participate in the online silent auction.
Bidding on the Items in the Silent Auction
  • Open the Silent Auction Website from your phone or computer. Click the "Auction Catalog" tab from menu. There you'll find the complete auction inventory and will be able to bid from 10:00 am on Monday until 9:00 pm on Saturday (March 9th).
  • You will get an email with a direct access link and your personal bidder access code. These will allow you to log in automatically and get right to bidding. You must be logged in to bid.
  • You and your spouse may bid from the same account to avoid bidding against each other. We recommend this unless you really want the satisfaction of being the one who won that Teacher Experience for your kid. Volunteers can show you the easy way to set this up if you are using the Auctria App at the event on Saturday.
  • Pay attention to the ways to bid on each item.
    • Single winner - these items allow you to place the maximum you want to pay and then the system will keep you in the lead until someone bids higher than your max. These items will also offer a buy-it-now in case you want to end the competition and secure the item just for you.
    • Multiple winner - we have many items this year that allow several people to win. If you bid and get in a lead spot and you get knocked out because others are bidding higher for the same experience, you will need to place a new bid to regain a winning spot. These items do not have the maximum bid feature.
    • Buy-it-now - some of the socials have a limited number of seats, use buy-it-now to pay the flat price and sign-up for a seat. There is no bidding on these so you cannot be outbid.
  • Keep checking your email or the Silent Auction Website to see if you have been outbid.
  • Ensure your credit card is registered. You can't bid without one associated with your account. This is how the auction will be closed out. Items won will be charged to your registered credit card. If you purchased your ticket already then you're probably set!
  • Bring your phone to the Saturday Silent Auction Gala. Bidding is done online via the mobile friendly website or Auctria mobile app (for Android or iOS). Download the app now so you can focus on bidding and not technology on Saturday night.
  • If you need any assistance, such as changing the credit card on file or getting a new bidder access code email, please visit the volunteers at the registration desk at the event on Saturday night.

We encourage you to PERUSE THE CATALOG NOW and PLAN YOUR BIDDING STRATEGY! There are lots of items and some big ticket items you may want to split with friends/families! (just make sure to work this out with them, there is no team bidding in the app)

The Clermont PTA Silent Auction Opens Tomorrow at 10:00am!

Having trouble viewing this email? View it as a Web page.

The Clermont PTA Silent Auction opens online tomorrow (Monday, 3/4) at 10:00am! The auction is opening before the Saturday evening event based on parent feedback from last year. This will give parents an opportunity to bid/purchase items before the event and allow for parents to participate in the Silent Auction if they are unable to attend the evening event. The auction will close at 9pm on Saturday during the Clermont PTA Silent Auction Gala.

Available in our Silent Auction:

  • Teacher Experiences: We have more Teacher Experiences available than ever before! There are 88 possible winners of our Teacher Experiences this year and many let students bring a guest. This gives more students the opportunity for a special experience with a teacher and we greatly appreciate it!
  • Classes & Camps: There are many Classes & Camps available to take during the day and some for overnight stay! Classes include art activities and fitness & dance sessions.
  • Event Tickets: Sports, Theatre, Music and interactive Event Tickets are available including 2 tickets to the Signature Theatre, 10 seats to a show at Bobby McKeys and Four PNC Diamond Club tickets (all inclusive food, and drinks) to a 2024 Washington Nationals home game!
  • Excursions & Travel: Local and short distance Exclusions & Travel are available and a great deal! Included 2 admission passes to Luray Caverns, Overnight stay at the Alexandrian and pair of Jet Blue roundtrip tickets to anywhere!
  • Parent Social: Parent Socials are very popular and usually sell out. This year, they are so good, we are sure they will! Grab these fast!
  • Services: The auction is a great place to obtain some services to use for yourself or others including multiple lawn services, a portrait session, car washes and a Delorean rental to display at a party or arrive to a special event in style!
  • Sports & Fitness: There are many Sports & Fitness packages available in the auction including for baseball training, Pure Barre & Yoga sessions and cycling & swimming classes!
  • Treat Yo Self: This category is all about making yourself feel good and includes books, décor and many self-care items & sessions!
  • Win a Party: Win a Party to share with your friends!
  • On Monday (March 4th), you will get an email with a direct access link and your personal bidder access code.
If you bid and get in a winning spot and you get knocked out because others are bidding higher for the same experience, you will need to place a new bid to regain a winning spot.

Calendar Reminder: No School on Tuesday, March 5 - Presidential Primary

The Fairfax Board of Elections has requested that schools be closed on Tuesday, March 5, to accommodate the safe and efficient administration of the 2024 presidential primary election.

Therefore, March 5 will be a school holiday for students and a virtual School Planning Day. As outlined in Regulation 4421, School Planning Days are directed by school-based Administrators in order to devote time to school improvement efforts, including collaboration around data, common assessments, responsive instruction, etc.

Central offices and school offices will remain open. SACC will remain open, as on other professional work days.

Counselor's Corner

Our classroom lessons during January and February focused on the following topics:

Kindergarten - Exploring what it means to practice kindness. Learning how self-talk can impact your feelings about yourself. Discovering what makes you unique.

1st grade - Learning to steer yourself out of a bad mood and learning to tell the difference between the things you can and can’t control. Practicing strategies for coping with the things we can’t control.

2nd grade - Learning the concept of ownership by taking the first step. Discovering the power of differences through identifying what is important to yourself and others.

3rd grade - Learning about and practicing testing strategies in order to prepare for standardized testing. Learning to steer yourself out of a bad mood and learning to tell the difference between the things you can and can’t control. Practicing strategies for coping with the things we can’t control.

4th grade - Learning about respecting differences and building empathy. Understanding boundaries and personal space.  Learning and practicing the problem solving steps.

5th grade - Continuing the focus on belonging by learning about and putting together a self mind map. Seeing the power of understanding through learning how identity and teamwork come together.

6th grade - FCPS Mandated Sexual Harassment Lessons.

If you or your child would like to make an appointment with the school counselor, please contact us.

Therefore, March 5 will be a school holiday for students and a virtual School Planning Day. Central offices and school offices will remain open. SACC will remain open, as on other professional work days.

Good Vibes all around when you are twinning at Clermont!

FAQs

What is a Silent On-line Auction?

A Silent On-line Auction is a fundraising event where the bidding and direct purchases are done electronically on your phone until the bidding closes.  A link to the bidding site will be sent to you after you register for the Auction.

How Can I help make the auction a success?

If you have season tickets to sporting events or the arts (plays, ballets, etc..), you can donate those items to be bid on! In addition, if you own a time share or vacation home you could donate this as a live auction item.  Do you have unused gift cards lying around? Those help too! If you are interested in donating, please email [email protected] or drop off items to the front office.

Do I have to dress up?

This year’s event theme is a Mardi Gras Theme.  Feel free to come comfortable or dress up. No dress code required.

What type of Items will be Auctioned?

Items in the past have included restaurant gift cards, tickets to a play, massages, fitness classes, adventure passes, vacation packages, just to name a few.  The Auction will also offer Teacher/Clermont Experiences, and Socials.

What are Parent Socials and Children Activities?

They are events hosted by a Clermont family/supporter where a specified number of “tickets” are sold at the auction at a set price on a first come basis.  Hosts set the details/themes of the event and may contribute the costs of the event, so that full ticket price from the Social is donated to the Clermont PTA. Often times, Parent Socials and Children Activities have multiple hosts to share the costs of the event. In the past, there has usually been at least one Social/Activity offered per grade level (i.e. 2nd Grade Moms, 5th Grade Dads, Kindergarten Parents, 3rd Grade Boys Basketball, 1st Grade Paint and Popsicles). These Socials & Activities are an excellent opportunity to meet and get to know better other students or parents at Clermont Elementary School. Would you like to donate a social or activity? Please use this form

Deadline to Submit Items, Experiences and Socials is 2/21/24!

Questions? Please email: [email protected].

The PTA Silent Auction is one of our largest fundraising events of the year.  It allows the PTA to sponsor a vast number of programs throughout the year that benefit ALL Clermont students, including Enrichment Programs, School Field Trips, Classroom Instructional Supplies, New Technology, Assemblies, and more.  Please click on the "Tickets" tab in the link to purchase your pass to this event and let the good times roll!

We need volunteers to make the auction a success! To inquire about volunteering, please click here.
